A bit of a new-look weekly update ✨
Popped all the key things for the past week on the first slide, then my monthly goals on the second 💙

Still taking it slowly right now - I found out last week that I’m severely vitamin D deficient, which explains my lack of energy lately among other things. Still, a tiny baby step each day is better than no steps at all, right? 😅

It is also ARC season for me right now as the first of the ARCs I’ve signed up for has come through - smashing my way through @j.s.harman.author’s Dark Sands right now and LOVING IT!! It is definitely igniting a craving to watch Pitch Black and Aliens 😂

This week was rough 😩 enjoyable, but rough.
School holiday burn out is real - had a blast with the kiddos, but just didn’t have the energy or focus to do much of anything in the evenings I usually spend writing.

Coupled with a big dose of impostor syndrome and self-doubt really kicking me in the ass, it’s been an unholy nexus of staring into the void with occasional screaming.

The good news is that the last 2 days saw a bit of a turning point in figuring stuff out in my God Words revision 😅 more on that in my newsletter this weekend 🗞️

Also absolutely loved meeting some writing friends from Insta for the first time in real life 🥹💙 Hope they couldn’t tell how cringey awkward blabbermouth I was the whole time 😂

Not a whole lot done this past week - I blame end-of-school-term burnout 😩

Edits are still happening, but lately I find myself staring at documents instead of actively changing any words 😅 mostly because I seem to be stuck on one particular issue that I’m still trying to find solutions for: how do I make my reader cry? Scream? Want to throw the book across the room in angst and yet scramble to retrieve it because they have to know how it all ends up? I’m not sure I’ve achieved that level of emotional damage, and I want it badly 😩 welcome to any and all advice 😂💙

Yes, confirmed, I’m cheating on God Words with a short story 😂🤣 and while I know it isn’t an excuse to say ‘it wasn’t planned, it just happened’, that’s what I’m going to be going with 😂

To be fair, I’ve wanted to give short story writing a go, if not for any other reason than to finish a small project and put some of my writing out there that all you lovely folks who have been following me on this journey can enjoy 💙 it’s going to be a little while before I can share it - mostly because I really should be editing GWs - but I’m looking forward to it!!

As for GWs, I ended up deciding that ch 3 could remain ch 3 if it behaves, and instead decided to add a new opening scene to it to fulfil the chara development and setup that I realised was missing in draft 2. Aiming to have that done, and start on ch 4 this week.

Also, there may be something fun dropping later this week relating to GWs 👀 something that I may have mentioned in last month’s newsletter… I haven’t forgotten!

The weeks just seem to be flying by 😭

I am almost 3/4 of the way through my God Words re-read - the changes planned are REAL omg, I’m equal parts so excited and terrified about where I’m thinking of taking it.

As for the Renaissance Project, I feel like mentally I have stalled a little. I feel like it’s an entire cake I’m trying to eat, and all I’ve been doing lately is picking sprinkles off one by one to nibble on. I’m procrastinating that big slice - making key decisions that will start properly shaping it but also might be crap. I need someone to slap the perfectionism out of me please 😩

Editing on God Words has begun in earnest! ✍️

I plan on reading through and marking it up first for big picture problems, and also to remind myself of the story because it has literally been months since I’ve read these chapters. Then I’ll make those big changes I need to (hopefully not story-breaking, although there’s already been one plot hole monster that’s reared its ugly head) and basically rinse and repeat until it’s in a place I’m happy with!

Planning for the Renaissance Project continues also 👀

I think I’m settled with who my POV characters will be, but I’m still developing their backstories and what the plot will look like - I have a rough idea of what they both want, and how their stories will converge, but the whole thing is holey-er than the new pope 😂

Going down the rabbit hole on this new project and loving every second! 💙

It’s been good to have a break from it, even though it is still very much on my mind (and I keep jotting down ideas I have for when I do revise it). Cannot wait to print it out next week and go stationery shopping 🎉😂

It has also been really good to work properly on this other project I’ve had banging around in my brain-space for awhile! More on this when I feel like I’ve got more solid ideas down, but I can at least say that it is a fantasy, and right now it’s set in a world roughly similar to around 1400-1500s Italy (Renaissance period - think Borgias, Medicis, Da Vinci, Michelangelo). 🎨🖼️💰⚔️

Dropped the ball a bit with the weekly update, but hope I can be forgiven as I was a very busy lady this past weekend being a bridesmaid at my besties wedding 🥹💙

This past week I did have to take a break from my manuscript to prepare a pitch, which was such an amazing experience 🥹 I also learned loads about the roles and work of publishing houses which was so valuable and interesting!

Wellp, I didn’t quite finish the manuscript yet 😅😅

But I’m not going to dwell too much on the things I didn’t do, and instead celebrate the things I did achieve (or else fall into a pit of despair 😩)

✨I did smash more than 10k words out again this week!

✨I did use a lot of spare time during daylight hours to write, even though that time was limited this week.

✨I did get so very close to finishing - only about 4 chapters to go!!

I also forgot to mention in the graphics that I sent out this month’s newsletter as well 👀🗞️ if you aren’t on my mailing list, check out the link in my bio and get on it for more in-depth updates, reading recs and tangential ramblings!

Here’s hoping that by this time next week, I’m saying my second draft is finished 🥺💙

Another month begins! ✨

After @genrecon_ this weekend, I am feeling so pumped and energised to get this draft done! While I try to tell myself that having written this story is enough, and the enjoyment of writing is a reward in itself, in the back of my mind I have always worried that all this time spent writing may amount to nothing.

After this weekend, though, I’m finally feeling truly optimistic about my goals being met, and my dreams becoming a reality. I know, I’m being sappy af right now 😂😂 but honestly? Publishing this book is now a question of WHEN and HOW, not IF. And I am so excited for that 🥺😭💙

Hit my goal of 40k 🎉

Had some great feedback from an alpha reader 🥹

But also have come up against some plot/pacing problems I can foresee happening. Despite my goal for 50k by the end of the week, I have a feeling I might be spending a little time revising my outline a little just to make sure everything stays on track. My characters have suddenly gotten yappy and they need to slow down 😂

A slightly different take on the ‘Coffee with my younger self’ trend.

I made a promise to myself as a teenager, no matter where life took me, I would always come back to writing.

And not only come back to it, but get it out there into the world.

Since then, I had a flash fiction published in my graduating yearbook, I was a finalist in an Australian literary competition for a short story I wrote, and was published in my university’s literary magazine.

This year, my goals is to finish this novel rewrite, whip it into shape, and get it into the hands of others who will hopefully love it as much as I do 💙
